Dolly's House is the project that best captures what future-proof design actually looks like in practice: a double-storey garage conversion made comfortable, beautiful, and quietly easier to live in — without ever feeling like a compromise. The brief was to transform a workshop into a considered space for independent living, whilst still sitting comfortably under the umbrella of the family home.
Wider thresholds, layered lighting, low-maintenance finishes, and a layout that keeps everyday spaces intuitive and easy to navigate — alongside a fully operational lift that integrates seamlessly into the build, both practically and aesthetically. All of it wrapped in a duck-egg and warm-neutral palette that feels as though it has always belonged. The pieces Dolly already loved stayed; the work was making sure the new spaces functioned as beautifully as the rest of the home.

A former workshop and garage, thoughtfully reimagined into a warm, independent living space that feels entirely connected to the family home. The brief was clear: nothing clinical, nothing that announces itself as “adapted.” Just thoughtful design, beautifully resolved — spaces that work harder, feel softer, and allow Dolly to live independently without compromise.
Wider thresholds, considered lighting at every level, soft non-slip surfaces, and subtle contrast exactly where it helps — alongside a fully operational lift that allows seamless access to both floors without relying on the stairs. Every detail was integrated quietly into the design, none of it reading as “adapted” — just a home that works beautifully and intuitively. Sentimental pieces stayed exactly where they belonged.
Visitors don't notice the accessibility work, which is exactly the point. They notice that Dolly's house is beautiful. Dolly notices that it's now much easier to live in. Both of those things are the project's success.
